Is my phone hacked? How to check for spyware and stalkerware

24 Sep 2026 · 6 min read

If someone seems to know your private messages, locations, or calls, spyware or stalkerware on your own device is a real possibility. Here's how to check safely.

Warning signs

  • Fast battery drain, overheating, or unusual data usage.
  • Unknown apps, or "device admin" apps you didn't install.
  • Settings that re-enable themselves; unexpected 2FA prompts.

What to do

  1. Update your OS — many spyware tools break on updates.
  2. Review app permissions and installed apps; remove anything unknown.
  3. Change passwords from a different, trusted device, and turn on 2FA.

Safety note: if the device may be monitored by an abusive partner, removing spyware can escalate the situation — consider your safety and support services first. We investigate only your own devices, with your consent.

You don't have to deal with this alone.
